The North Shore Park design started with a collaborative process with the local community of North Shore and the non-profit organization developing the park. During the initial meetings with the community, it was established that a shaded pavilion would be one of the important pieces of the North Shore Park.
The new design of the shaded pavilion plays with the superimposition of simple geometric shapes: the circular floor plan, to the square structure on the top, to the hexagonal grid that forms the hanging honeycomb structure. Inspired by colorful Mexican textiles the 10’ tall hanging perforated aluminum panels allow for light to trickle down while providing shade. The colorful vertical panels stand out against the desert landscape celebrating the local culture and creating a landmark for this community.
