Celebrate Play

Photographs 6 and 7 by Hans Koester.

The sculpture started with a cube, as insinuated by the size limitations set by the A+D Museum. The cube was then carved creating an interplay of openings and shapes that defy gravity.

The complex ‘pixelated’ curved surfaces of the carvings were purposely made with an agglomeration of hand cut sticks instead of being cut with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) software and fabrication tools. The intent was to make complex surfaces and shapes from simple square sticks.
