In collaboration with Smith-Clementi.
We designed a building that elevates its community, art and culture. A warm welcoming place, invoking a sense of belonging and acceptance, with craftsmanship displayed on details and speaking of the art produced at SHG. The project uses passive environmental strategies such as natural lighting and ventilation to provide comfort with reduced energy consumption and maintenance.
We saw this project as an opportunity for SHG to continue to advocate for its community. Transforming the SHG parking area into a park will give the Boyle Heights community a needed green space to rest, celebrate its culture and experience art, and the park will become an example for other organic and spontaneous interventions to a healthier, greener community.
