North Shore, place of a resilient community with vibrant culture and vigorous natural elements, inspired our architectural concept for the buildings and pavilion of North Shore Park. We collaborated with a non-profit organization and local community to create a design that would celebrate the culture of the place, as well as the native environment.
The weathered concrete buildings represent the density, weight and opacity of the surrounding desert. In contrast to the grounded buildings, the colorful Mexican textile inspired banners of the pavilion float above and evoke the transparency and lightness of the sky, and like the resilient community, they negotiate with the sun and wind a place of comfort for human interaction.
